Highly recommend this company! Tuesday afternoon, I came home on my lunch break and stepped into ankle deep water thanks to our water heater busting. We have a one story house on a slab and every single room in the house was flooded. Within a couple hours we had someone from ServiceMaster come out to our house to take a look and he was very nice. He left with the promise that he was going to get his guys out that night to start the cleanup process and he made good on that promise. Within 20-30 minutes of leaving our house, he called to let us know when his guys would be coming. They moved all of our stuff and hooked up so much equipment to help dry our house. I am grateful to these employees for how long they stayed at our house in order to get everything done. Thanks to the quick response on their part, our baseboards and drywall were saved. Thank you for making this terrible situation not so terrible!

How Do You Clean Up Smoke Damage After a Fire?

Homeowners who contact our team for fire damage restoration services commonly want to know what is involved in effectively cleaning up smoke damage after a fire has occurred. Smoke odor is one of the biggest issues that a fire leaves in its wake. The cleanup of these odors involves steps that include:

  1. The Use of Tri-Sodium Phosphate – Tri-sodium phosphate products are highly useful in cleaning up smoke odors. It is important to remember that this is a caustic product and must be used according to the provided instructions. Items of clothing that are bleachable can be washed in a solution of 4 to 6 tablespoons of tri-sodium phosphate with chlorine bleach per gallon of warm water. Another option is to wash clothes in cold water with a standard laundry detergent and a tablespoon of pure vanilla extract.
  2. The Use of Mild Soap to Clean Furniture, Floors, and Walls – Smoke odor can be cleaned from floors, walls, and furniture by using a mild detergent combined with 4 to 6 tablespoons of tri-sodium phosphate along with 1 cup of chlorine bleach or household cleaner. This should be mixed at this ratio per gallon of warm water. When using this cleaning method, it is important to make sure that you wear rubber gloves and to carefully rinse all surfaces with warm, clear water.
  3. Cleaning Washable Wallpaper – When cleaning smoke odor from washable wallpaper, you can also use mild detergent and 4 to 6 tablespoons of tri-sodium phosphate along with a cup of chlorine bleach.
